enjoying guests

My mom and sister are here for a couple of days. It's looking like all that we will be doing is shopping for baby stuff, going to baby appointments, and talking about babies. What fun! Today I go in for my 12 week checkup. I'm still unsure about whether or not I'll get another ultrasound, but if I do, I will definitely post a picture.

Travis' dream child

sweet kisses

man-o-man! I went home to Franklin this weekend for a baby shower and when I got back last night, I came home to a handsome husband and a clean house. Travis just kissed on me and hugged me and stared at me. Another thing that he does when I leave is he collects all of the pictures of me in the house and puts them around the bed so he can see them before he goes to bed. Maybe I need to leave more often.

Cravings

My mom and I got to talking about cravings last night. When she was pregnant with me, she would send my dad out in the wee hours of the night in search of a hamburger, and it HAD to be a hamburger. About 2 weeks ago, I asked Travis to pick me up an Arby's Roast Beef on his way home from work, stressing the need for Arby's sauce. When I opened the bag and found no sauce, I was more than angry and I just couldn't eat that sandwich (how stupid). I thought it might be fun to occasionally let you in on what I crave, especially because eating and finding joy in eating is something new for me. I'm having so much fun!

Latest cravings:
  • Fruit (anything watery)
  • Water, Tea
  • Cheeseburgers (with lots of mustard and ketchup)
  • Cantonese Boneless Chicken (a Franklin Fortune House specialty that I haven't had for at least 12 years, but I can still remember how great it tastes...yum)
  • Baked Potatoes (with butter, sour cream, and salt/pepper)
  • Sushi

That's about it so far, but we'll see. Even though it feels like I'm eating all the time, I'm still about 5 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight. The doctor says it will come, just wait.

Post a comment and tell me what foods you crave (pregnant or not).

in my mind

i'm gone to Colorado. Maybe it's just the hormones but I sobbed this morning when I looked through a friend's pictures of out West. I miss the never-ending sunshine, the snow and skiing, the crisp air. I miss hiking and feeling so tired afterwards. I miss buffalo burgers and Good Times frozen custard. I miss Boulder and all the hippies. I love how every street and area was planned out so that there aren't 18 traffic lights within a 1-mile radius. I miss Buell theater and making a night of going downtown and watching a show. I miss the best sushi I've ever had.

I think I miss it so much because I actually got to see my husband; it was our place and we enjoyed it TOGETHER. The main reason we moved to Chattanooga was so that our children would be close to their grandparents. I want to give my children (and parents) that gift. But my heart is not here. Anyone want to buy us a ticket to DIA?

ok ok

so I promised an entry today, so here it is. I was going to take a picture of my belly to show the bump that I think is there, but Travis says I'm crazy. I got ready to take it, pulled up my shirt, hit the button, and nothing happened. So T will have to fix it when he gets home. Sorry.

The last two days have been a dream. The best part was, of course, that Travis was off. (For those of you who don't know, Travis' asst. manager flaked on him and left without notice about 6 weeks ago. He has been working 8am-10pm, 7 days a week since then. Needless to say, even a couple of hours would have felt great, so 2 days was sinful!) For Valentine's Day, we slept in, went to the gym, watched Sopranos, and then he took me downtown for our first Chattanooga sushi (I ate the cooked ones). He also surprised me with a bookshelf and considering that our guest room is stacked with boxes of books, it was the perfect gift. Yesterday, it was just more hugs and "I can't believe that you're here."

Would I be AS thankful and grateful to God if this 6 weeks had never happened? I'd like to think so, but definitely not. That's how it works.

Sorry to disappoint

but for the next two days, I will be entertaining my husband on his days off. I'm going to try to spend every last second with him, so I'll talk to you all on Saturday.

some fun for monday

i found this crazy article that says you can tell if you're having a boy or girl if you have the following "symptoms".

It's a boy if:
You didn't experience morning sickness in early pregnancy
Your baby's heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute
You are carrying the extra weight out front
Your belly looks like a basketball
Your areolas have darkened considerably
You are carrying low
You are craving salty or sour foods
You are craving protein -- meats and cheese
Your feet are colder than they were before pregnancy
The hair on your legs has grown faster during pregnancy
Your hands are very dry
Your pillow faces north when you sleep
Dad-to-be is gaining weight, right along with you
Pregnancy has you looking better than ever
Your urine is bright yellow in color
Your nose is spreading
You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves in circles
You are having headaches
You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an even number

It's a girl if:
You had morning sickness early in pregnancy
Your baby's heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute
You are carrying the weight in your hips and rear
Your left breast is larger than your right breast
Your hair develops red highlights
You are carrying high
Your belly looks like a watermelon
You are craving sweets
You are craving fruit
You crave orange juice
You don't look quite as good as normal during pregnancy
You are moodier than usual during pregnancy
Your face breaks out more than usual
You refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread
Your breasts have really blossomed!
Your pillow faces south when you sleep
Your urine is a dull yellow color
You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves from side to side
You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an odd number

Soooo...according to this, we're having a GIRL. Don't start buying anything yet, Mom!

First Ultrasound

There he/she is.

i never thought it would be that cool

to see the baby on the ultrasound screen...even better was the fact that Travis took 2 1/2 hours off of work just to come and hold my hand! You could make out the head, arms, butt, legs and heartbeat. We also got to see the umbilical cord and you could see the heartbeat pulsing through that. Everything looked great and the due date is still Sept. 4th. I did nearly pass out after giving blood - hopefully that will get better because they do it every appointment. I go back in 3 weeks when I'm 12 weeks along.

i'll post the ultrasound pic as soon as T gets home and I can get him to do it :)

First Time

Welcome to our blog! Exclamation point! First time posting, obviously. I'm kind of excited to join the ranks of Camila and Amanda, although I doubt our blog will be as popular. I am a little afraid that I might fail at updating this thing as often as I expect others to update their blogs :), but I am optimistic that family and friends will want to get updates on the baby and sometimes us. So the first update is that I have my first doctor's appointment on Tuesday at 11am. Travis is going to try to get off work to go with me. I just want to see the heartbeat. If they give me a ultrasound pic, I'll post it; although it will look a lot more like a blob instead of this human that is growing.
